The Mean Green tennis team finished out the UNLV Invitational with a single and doubles tournament champions.
North Texas freshman Alexis Thoma won her Flight Three finals round by defeating UNLV’s own Santa Shumilina (7-5, 7-6) this Sunday.
“The experience I had this weekend was something that was almost indescribable,” said Thoma. “Having a team that supports you 100 percent of the way is the most amazing and secure feeling, I am very excited to see what the rest of the season has to offer.”
In doubles play, Mean Green veteran duo of Kseniya Bardabush and Franziska Sprinkmeyer defeated South Alabama 8-4 to win Flight One.
Mean Green newcomer’s Kamilla Galieva and Ana Sofia Cordeo won their Flight Three consolation doubles match against Northern Arizona (8-5).
Cordeo was victorious in consolation finals against Long Beach State (6-4, 3-6, 6-2), placing her third in Flight Five.
“Overall a very good tournament for the Mean Green,” said head coach Sujay Lama. “We improved throughout the weekend and that was encouraging.”
Up next is the ITA All-American Championships pre-qualifying round Sept. 25, in Pacific Palisades, CA.
