IRVING, Texas - No. 64 Mean Green tennis beat its fourth straight Sun Belt Conference opponent on Friday, dominating the Denver Pioneers 5-2 at Las Colinas Country Club.
North Texas (10-5) was the better team from the start, with Nadia Lee and Barbora Vykydalova jumping to an early lead on court one doubles before winning the match 8-3.
"We played a good match against an indoor Denver team and came out with the victory," said associate head coach Jeff Maren. "I was proud of the way our No. 1 player Kseniya [Bardabush] stepped up in her match and pleased to see everyone contribute. This was a good way to get ready to face a good Louisville team this weekend."
Irina Paraschiv and Franziska Sprinkmeyer had a tougher time early on in the No. 2 doubles slot, before cruising late for the 8-3 win as well.
With the doubles point locked up, the court three pairing of Valentina Starkova and Kseniya Bardabush stopped their match leading 3-0.
Lee continued the Mean Green onslaught with a quick 6-3, 6-2 victory on court two in singles over the Pioneers Elena Najera. The win gave the senior her fifth singles victory in her last six matches.
Another senior stepped up early in singles to give North Texas a 3-0 lead when Paraschiv breezed through DU's Natalie Dunn in just over a hour with a 6-0, 6-2 win. She has now won two-in-a-row and three of her last four.
Court one had the freshman Bardabush clinch the match for the Mean Green with a gutsy three set victory. After dropping the first set 6-2, she had to rally in the second set before blowing the Pioneers top player Sophia Bergner out in the third for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 win.
Denver would win on court three singles to narrow its deficit to 4-1 when Natalie Dunn took down Starkova in straight sets.
The Pioneers narrowed the North Texas lead yet again when Steffi Rath took down Ilona Serchenko, 6-4, 6-4.
North Texas' reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week Paula Dinuta would give the Mean Green its final point on court six, winning a hard fought match over Gabby Boboc 7-5, 6-3.
The Mean Green will return to the court against the Louisville Cardinals on Sunday. First serve is set for 12 p.m. at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
