DENTON, Texas -The North Texas tennis team won their first conference match of the season against UTEP, this Sunday.
“We ended up indoors due to the weather and UTEP did not make things easy with their ability to close out points,” said associate head coach Jeff Hammond. “Fortunately we continue to play at a high level and our effort was there as well. Thanks go out to our Mean Green fans who braved the weather.”
The Mean Green moved their home match to Las Colinas Country Club where they defeated the Miners 4-1. The game started off with singles play and did not continue on to doubles, due to the North Texas victory.
Anastasiya Shestakova defeated the Miner’s Davina Meza at the No.2 spot 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. This was her fourth straight win in singles.
Up next the Mean Green will travel to Fort Worth, Texas to take on TCU Mar. 5, and the will be back at Warranch for a weekend dual against Louisville Mar.7, and Denver Mar.9.
