LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Mean Green Tennis was swept 7-0 by the University of Louisville Sunday morning at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The Cardinals came out strong, taking all three doubles matches.
The No. 1 duo for the Mean Green lost its first match of the week when UL's Julia Fellerhoff and Rebecca Shine pulled out the narrow 8-6 victory against Irina Paraschiv and Barbora Vykydalova.
Singles saw North Texas with only five players available after an injury to Paraschiv, who was scheduled to play the No. 1 slot.
"We have had an unusual amount of adversity this year," said associate head coach Jeff Maren. "Today we did not have our #1 and 3 with us when our top player in the line-up goes down in doubles and cant play singles. With a few girls still fighting to get over the flu, our girls still battled hard and had such a good attitude on the court."
Playing the No. 1 slot for the first time this season, Vykydalova was able to capture the first set against the Cardinals Fellerhoff. The sophomore would then dropped the second set in heartbreaking fashion before losing the match in a super tie-breaker, 5-7, 7-6, 10-3.
"We truly believe that our season is going to take a turn for the better," Maren added. "The will to overcome and to win is still very high and we can't wait for the second half of the season to begin!"
North Texas will take the court against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane next Sunday, March 6, at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
