No. 64 Texas Tech Too Much For Mean Green

LUBBOCK, Texas -Mean Green tennis dropped its fourth match in a row Saturday afternoon when the 64th ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders defeated No. 70 North Texas 6-1 at the McLeod Tennis Center.

The Mean Green started off the match on the right foot as its No. 1 doubles squad of Irina Paraschiv and Barbora Vykydalova dominated the Red Raider pairing of Samantha Adams and Kelsy Garland 8-1.

Texas Tech would grab the No. 3 slot in doubles handily before battling out an 8-4 over Amy Joubert and Paula Dinuta, North Texas' No. 2 duo.

"The bottom line is that we are struggling and have not found a way to overcome the adversity of not having one of our key players in the line-up," said head coach Sujay Lama. "We need to get our swagger back and that will only come when we find a way to get a win."

Singles saw the Red Raiders expand its lead out to 5-0 with four straight set wins over the Mean Green before Paraschiv claimed the only North Texas point.

Playing the No. 1 position for the first time this spring, the junior grabbed a tough first set win over Elizabeth Ullathorne. Paraschiv would then drop the second set before winning the third and the match in a tiebreaker, 7-6, 1-6, 1-0.

North Texas will be back in action Feb. 24 when it plays host to the Aggies of Utah State at 2 p.m. at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
