Swimming & Diving Heads To UIW Christmas Invitational On Friday
North Texas Travels To Holiday Meet For First Time Since 2012 Win
DENTON - North Texas came away with a win in its last trip to Incarnate Word’s Christmas Invitational, and - while the team is vastly different from two seasons ago - the Mean Green hopes for a similar outcome when it heads to this year’s edition of the holiday meet.
The three-day invitational will begin on Friday, Dec. 19, and will conclude on Sunday, Dec. 21, from the Aquatic Center at Palo Alto College in San Antonio. The preliminary round is set to start at 10 a.m. each day, with finals taking place at 6 p.m.
North Texas will take on familiar foes in Houston, Rice and hosting Incarnate Word. The Mean Green has picked up dual wins against each team so far this year.
Wednesday marked two years since the Mean Green’s first-place finish at the 2012 UIW Invite, but there will still be familiar faces making the trip to San Antonio. Two seniors - Krista Rossum and Mona Groteguth - look to replicate their performances from two year’s ago. Rossum and Groteguth each broke school records in the 200 breaststroke and 100 backstroke, respectively, and they competed in the team’s record-setting 200 medley relay.

- This will be the first competition for the diving team in more than a month. Diving last competed against Rice on Nov. 1.
- Rossum and Groteguth are both competing for top conference times in their respective events. Rossum has the fifth-best time in both IM events, while Groteguth has the second-best time in the 200 back and fifth-best time in the 100 back.
- Isabelle Morris is proving to be one of the top freshman short distance freestylers in Conference USA. She currently has top-ten conference times in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyle events.
