Notes For UNLV Winter Invite
DENTON, Texas (12/14/07) The University of North Texas swimming and diving team will head out west to Las Vegas, N.V. just before the Christmas holidays to compete in the UNLV Winter Invitational, Dec. 15-17.
It will be the first time for the Mean Green to participate in the three day invite. University of California Santa Barbara, New Mexico State, Dartmouth and Utah are just a few of the 14 teams that North Texas will see at the invitational. New Mexico State and Dartmouth are both ranked in the top 20 in the mid-major ranking produced by collegeswimming.com. Dartmouth is ranked No. 16 while the Aggies come in at No. 18.
The Mean Green head into the UNLV Invite ranked just above Dartmouth and New Mexico State at No. 12. It is the highest ranking ever by a Mean Green swimming and diving team. The Mean Green was ranked as high as No. 24 last season after posting a school best 7-4 dual-meet record. Denver and Western Kentucky are the only Sun Belt teams ranked above North Texas. Missouri State, who the Mean Green beat earlier in the year, sit at No. 10.
Once the Mean Green jump into the water to compete at the UNLV Invite on Friday, it will have been more than one month since North Texas has competed in any sort of dual meet or invite. The Mean Green’s last competition came in a double-dual meet against SMU and Wyoming on Nov. 9.
After the UNLV Invite, North Texas will return back to the pool Jan. 8 in a dual meet against New Mexico State at Las Cruces, N.M.
