DENTON, Texas - The Mean Green swimming and diving team announced its Fall 2012 signing class after four girls, two from Texas, signed their National Letters of Intent.
"I am thrilled to welcome these four promising swimmers into the Mean Green Family," head coach Joe Dykstra said. "They continue the trend of our caliber of recruiting getting stronger each and every year and will help propel us into higher national rankings and to compete with the very best in Conference USA."
Eva Marie Oesterhus is an all-around swimmer from Norway.
"Eva Marie Oesterhus is one of the best swimmers in Norway, ranking as the best 18 and under swimmer in several events over the past couple years," coach Dykstra said. "She has the ability to race any distance of freestyle and also the IM's and the 200 fly. She will be a big boost to our freestyle relays and her versatility will be a real asset to our team."
North Texas also locked up backstroker Ash Stone out of Australia.
"Ash Stone is a very exciting prospect from Australia," coach Dykstra said. "She will add a lot more punch to our group of backstrokers."
The Mean Green also landed Abby McAlpin, the #40 recruit in Texas as ranked by collegeswimming.com as well as Courtney Connelly, the #34 recruit in the state.
"Our two signees from Texas both have bright futures ahead of them with the Mean Green," coach Dykstra said. "Abby McAlpin has shown huge improvement over the past couple seasons and she has a very high ceiling. I think she will immediately be a top performer for us in the IM's and backstrokes. She has competed on the US Deaf Olympic team and we are thrilled to have her join our program. Courtney Connelly is an up-and-coming sprint freestyler and breaststroker. She also has big potential and I am so excited to be able to help her realize it."
