Swimming Breaks Record; Picks Up Win



DENTON (11/17/06) The swimming and diving team broke a school record and head coach Joe Dykstra picked up his third and fourth win of the season 181-119 against San Diego State and 219-69 against Centenary on Friday.


The team won nine events out of 14 and broke the school record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:49.84, which was previously broken three weeks ago against TCU.


The team narrowly missed breaking five school records during the meet.


Freshman Emily Floyd set the school's third-best mark in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:39.46.


Bonnie Garcia-Meitin went her third fastest time in the NT record books in the 100-yard backstroke after she beat her own previsous record of 58.50.


Alesha Olesen also gave the school record a run as she finished with the fifth-best time in school history in the 100 fly with a time of  1:00.00.


Freshman Alicia Hale, who has broken two school records so far this season, set the second-best time at NT with a time of 2:11.55. She currently holds the fastest time at 2:09.81, set October 25th against TCU.


The Mean Green is back in action December 1-2 at the annual UALR Invitational held in Little Rock, Arkansas.
