DENTON (11/17/2005) The North Texas women’s swimming and diving team fell to TCU Thursday night, 152-130, but junior Gwen Rourke and sophomore Bonnie Garcia-Meitin inched closer to breaking their school records.
The Mean Green competed fiercely as it snatched first place victories in three consecutive events from the Horn Frogs. Garcia-Meitin started things off by grabbing first in the 100 Backstroke with the time 59.16. Her time becomes the third fastest in school history, giving Bonnie the top three fastest times in the 100 Backstroke.
Following the 100 Backstroke event was the 100 Breaststroke, in which Rourke took first place with the time 1:08.24. Sophomore Angelica Gentile rounded out the three back to back first place finishes in the 200 Butterfly with the time 2:13.80.
Rourke went on to place first in the 200 Breaststroke recording her fastest time of the season and the fourth fastest time in school history with 2:26.00. Garcia-Meitin also finished first in the 200 Backstroke at 2:09.42, and placed second in the 50 Freestyle with the time 25.09.
The Mean Green competes next when it travels to Little Rock, Ark. for the Christmas Invitational on Dec. 2-3.
