DENTON (11/13/03) - The North Texas women’s swimming and diving team won six of 13 events and had several swimmers set personal season-best times against TCU Thursday in its first of two home meets this week at the Univ. of North Texas Student Recreation Center.

The Mean Green battled TCU throughout and kept the score close, but eventually fell to the Horned Frogs 139-102. North Texas won back-to-back events twice during the meet and took gold in the 1,000 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle, 50 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 500 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle Relay.

Bethany Pipes and Jaime Hosner led North Texas with two first-place finishes each, while Elizabeth Johnson picked up one event championship. The Mean Green also won the meet’s final event, claiming the 400 Freestyle Relay title.

Emilia Tudose, Kara Brock, Laura Standeven, Pipes, Brooke Louisell and Heather Page all set personal season-best times in at least one event.

Pipes, named the Sun Belt Conference Swimmer of the Week on Thursday, posted the third fastest time in school history in both the 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke with times of 1:56.43 and 1:00.32, respectively. Her time in the 100 Backstroke is the fastest by any member of the North Texas team this year in the event.
