Behind The Blocks With Brittany Thurstin
Sophomore Swimmer Adjusts To Life In Denton
DENTON - Get to know sophomore swimmer and Bryan native Brittany Thurstin in today's Behind the Blocks.
Event: Sprint freestyle
Hometown: Bryan, Tx
Q: How does Denton differ from your hometown?
A: I come from the conservative town of Bryan/College Station Texas where A&M University
traditions are a way of life, so the biggest difference between Bryan and Denton is the liberal
ideology that follows the majority of UNT students. Denton is also larger than Bryan but they
share a similar "downtown" feeling that is historic.
Q: Who or what got you into the sport?
A: My mom swam in college at Lamar University, but my dad is the one that put me into a summer
program that included swimming at a fitness center and that was my start in the sport.
Q: What is your favorite event to compete in?
A: 50 free
Q: What event do you hope to never compete in?
100+... (I wouldn't know how to which is scary)
Q: What are you looking forward to most about the upcoming season?
A: I'm looking forward to being around everyone and for us as a team to break some records.
Q: What is your favorite sport to watch during the Olympics?
A: I love watching all of them because these are the best athletes in the world and they perform with gratitude. I love watching swimming because I've been on both sides of winning/losing by .01 of a second so I can appreciate the details of the sport.
Q: Who is your team family?
A: Eagle Dynasty
Q: Do you have a hidden (or not so hidden) talent?
A: I really love crafting and painting.
Q: If you could trade places with one person, who would it be and why?
A: Reese Witherspoon because she is fierce, fabulous, and blonde.
