DENTON (11/7/02) - Competing in its first meet of the spring season, the North Texas women’s swimming and diving team hosted TCU Wednesday night and battled the Horned Frogs throughout the competition in a 122-158 setback.
North Texas won three events and claimed at least second place in half the events. The Mean Green won the 200 Medley Relay to start the night and led 19-17 after two events, but TCU was able to jump ahead 30-25 after three events and didn’t relinquish the lead the remainder of the meet. Elizabeth Jennings won the 100 Butterfly to pull North Texas within five points (58-53) of TCU after six events, but the Mean Green got no closer.
Christina Bernal also claimed an individual event title with a time of 1:10.60 in the 100 breaststroke. Five different Mean Green swimmers or divers finished second place or better in at least one event.
Erin Irons, Aimee Moreau and Codi McClamb led TCU with two first-place finishes each.
The meet was the second hosted by North Texas this season as well as the second home swimming and diving contest in school history. The Mean Green will close out the home portion of its schedule with a meet on Jan. 25, hosting Louisiana-Monroe, Austin College and Rice. The meet is scheduled to get under way at 12 p.m.
