(11/3/01) The North Texas women’s swimming and diving team came away from two meet’s last weekend with two victories and one loss. The Mean Green fell 130-157 against TCU in head-to-head competition on Friday, but came back to knock off Austin College and Delta State in a dual meet on Saturday. North Texas cruised to victories over both schools, defeating Austin College, 99-10 and Delta State, 69.50-38.50. North Texas broke a three-meet losing skid with win’s and brought its record to 3-4.
The Mean Green won 4-of-16 events at the TCU meet and captured second place in half of the events. Kristin Carson won the 1,000-Yard Freestyle with a time of 10:52.80, Tiffani Harkrider won the 200-Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:57.94 and Melissa Whitaker won the three-meter diving event with a score of 244.80. The Mean Green also came away with first place in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay (Harkrider, Elizabeth Jennings, Bethany Pipes and Charlene McClain), posting a time of 1:40.97.
North Texas dominated Saturday’s meet, winning seven of the 13 events it competed in. The Mean Green took second place in seven events as well and set one school record. The 200-Yard Medley Relay team (Bethany Pipes, Kara Brock, Elizabeth Jennings, Tiffani Harkrider) won the 200-Yard Medley Relay with a school-record time of 1:55.11.
North Texas is back in action this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 and 10. The Mean Green will square off against Southwest Missouri State on Friday in Dallas (7 p.m.) and Texas A&M on Saturday in College Station (1 p.m.).
