Behind The Blocks With Katie Moore
Moore's Older Brother Was her Influence To Begin Swimming
Name: Katie Moore
Event: 200 Freestyle
Hometown: Phoenix, Arizona
Q: How does Denton differ from your hometown?
A: My hometown is Phoenix, Arizona, so of course the weather is a lot nicer. It is not as hot and there is humidity in Denton, which I would actually prefer than a dry heat. There are a lot more trees but sadly there are no mountains. Denton is a lot smaller than Phoenix which is both good and bad.
Q: Who or what got you into the sport?
A: I have been swimming every summer since I was little but it was always just a sport to kill time in between other sports. What truly got me swimming was my oldest brother who is 4 years older than me, got a scholarship for swimming to a Division 1 out-of-state school and I thought it was the coolest thing so I decided my sophomore year of high school to start swimming year round and strive to do the same as he did.
Q: What is your favorite event to compete in?
A: The 100 backstroke because since I am not a normal backstroke swimmer, there is no pressure and also underwaters are a lot easier on your back so I find the event fun.
Q: What event do you hope to never compete in?
A: The 200 butterfly or the mile both sound quite horrendous.
Q: What are you looking forward to most about the upcoming season?
A: Our training trip to Carlsbad, California which was the coolest thing last year. I love the pool that we swam at and the hotel is right on the beach. Everything about it is perfect.
Q: What is your favorite sport to watch during the Olympics?
A: Swimming was of course exciting to watch but I found myself watching gymnastics a lot. I just find it so interesting and exciting.
Q: Who is your team family?
A: Sarah Manning, Jasmine Abercrombie, Emily Rush, Deneen Carter and Kelsey Opiela.
Q: Do you have a hidden (or not so hidden) talent?
A: This summer I worked in a cupcake shop, and I can make a mean cappuccino.
Q: If you could trade places with one person, who would it be and why?
A: Although I am a huge Jennifer Aniston fan, I think I would trade places with Angelina Jolie because she quite wealthy and is so involved and donates money and helps people and I want to be able to make that big of an impact too.
