DENTON, Texas (11/2/12) - The North Texas swimming and diving team takes on the Rice Owls in the Mean Green's third dual meet of the season on Friday on the campus of the University of North Texas. The diving portion of the meet begins at 2:15 p.m. at the Physical Education Building, while the swim meet starts at 5 p.m.
North Texas has beaten the 2011 Conference USA champions the past two out of three seasons. Overall, North Texas is 2-9 against the Owls. With a dual-meet win against Rice, North Texas would start the season, 3-0. North Texas has never gone 3-0 in dual meets to start off a season.
North Texas won its fourth straight series meet against Tulane on Oct. 20. The Mean Green took first in 10 of the 16 events. Krista Rossum and Mona Groteguth won multiple events. Rossum took first place in the 100 yard breaststroke, 200 yard breaststroke and the 400 yard IM. Groteguth came out on top in the 100 yard backstroke and 200 yard backstroke.
Already this season, Rossum holds the top three times in the 100 breaststroke, which she holds the school record in. She also holds the school record in the 200 breaststroke and currently has the top two times in that event. Similarly, Groteguth holds the school record in the 100 and 200 backstroke and has the top times in those events this season.
Rebecca Taylor is in top form at the start of the season. In the three diving competitions so far this season,Taylor has placed first in all three in the three-meter dive. The junior holds the top two scores all-time in the three-meter dive and has the second-highest score in the one-meter.
