DENTON, Texas- North Texas swimming and diving squares off with SMU and Wyoming this Friday at 5:00 pm at the Perkins Natatorium in Dallas and host Rice Saturday morning at 11:00 am at the Pohl Recreation Center.
Reigning Sun Belt Swimmer of the Week Krista Rossum and Sun Belt Diver of the Week Catherine Johnson, the first North Texas diver in school history to qualify for the NCAA Zone Meet in back-to-back years, look to lead the way for the Mean Green.
Rossum set the school record in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.36) and Johnson met the NCAA Zone Meet diving score after winning the one-meter diving in a 184.5-115.5 victory over New Mexico State last weekend.
North Texas will be looking for its first victory over SMU in a cross-town series that dates back to Nov. 2, 1998. The Mean Green fell to then #22 Mustangs last season, 201-97.
North Texas is 0-2 all-time against the Wyoming, facing the Cowboys last on Nov. 9, 2007 in a double dual meet against SMU.
Friday’s schedule of events are as followed:
2:00 pm – Women’s 3-meter & Men’s 1-meter diving
2:45 pm – Open Warm-Ups
5:00 pm – Swim Meet Begins
400 Medley Relay
Women’s 1-meter diving
Men’s 3-meter diving
200 Free Relay
Two separate dual meets will be scored against Wyoming and SMU. Each team can enter two people per event. Scoring is 7-0 on relays and 5-3-1-0 on individual events.
North Texas vs. Rice
The Mean Green is 1-9 all-time against Rice falling to the Owls in Houston 168-97 last January. North Texas captured the last meeting at the Pohl Recreation Center with a 152-110 victory.
Saturday’s schedule of events are as followed:
