DENTON, Texas (10/31/07) Following her performance against No. 6 Texas A&M and Northern Arizona, Bonnie Garcia-Meitin has been named Sun Belt Conference Co-Swimmer of the Week. Garcia-Meitin shares the weekly honors with Denver’s Grace Kittle.
Garcia-Meitin picked up the sole first place finish for the Mean Green in its double-dual meet last weekend against the Aggies and Lumberjacks. Garcia-Meitin, a senior from Angleton, Texas, took gold in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.01; the fastest time in the Sun Belt this season and the fifth-fastest in school history. She finished second in the 200 back behind the Aggies' Emily Neal, who finished third last year at the Big XII Championships in that event. Her time of 2:04.04 in the 200 is the second fastest by any Sun Belt swimmer this season.
The Mean Green swimming and diving team returns back to the water, Friday, Nov. 9, 2007 as they take on No. 10 SMU and Wyoming in Dallas. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
