DENTON, Texas (10/27/07) The North Texas swimming and diving team dropped two double-dual meets to Texas A&M and Northern Arizona University Saturday afternoon.

The No. 6 Aggies downed North Texas 184-112, while NAU took a slim 152-148 victory over the Mean Green.

“I thought we were rather sluggish today,” said North Texas head swimming and diving coach Joe Dykstra. “My hat goes off to Texas A&M and Northern Arizona for swimming an excellent meet.”

All together, the Mean Green set five separate times that rank amongst the top-five all-time in school history. Bonnie Garcia-Meitin picked up the sole first place victory for North Texas in the 100-yard backstroke. Her time of 58.01 is Garcia-Meitin’s fastest this season and ranks fifth all-time in the 100 back.

“Bonnie is becoming as close to automatic as we have,” Dykstra said. “She continues to shave time off her performances every meet.”

Nicole Leslie picked up a silver in the 100 freestyle and bronze in the 50 free. In five meets this season, Leslie has failed to place in the top three in both the 50 and 100 free only one time. Hannah Bakke picked up key points for North Texas with her third place finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Bakke missed the gold in the 100 breast by less than one-tenth of a second.

“We lost a few close races that could have turned the meet in our favor, “Sometimes you win those, sometimes you don’t. We just happened to be on the short-end of it today.”

North Texas returns back to action Friday, Nov. 9, in Dallas. The Mean Green will square off against SMU and Wyoming. That meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
