Las Cruces, NM (10/27/01) - The North Texas women’s swimming and diving team (1-3) fell to New Mexico State in two head-to-head meet’s over the weekend.
Friday’s meet saw NMSU claim a 169-76 victory and the Aggies defeated the Mean Green 128-103 on Saturday. Both meet’s featured 13 events that were measured in meters, marking the first time this season the Mean Green did not swim in a meet where the events were measured in yards.
North Texas was down just 25-30 after three events on Friday, but NMSU had built its lead to 74-37 by the end of the sixth event. Despite never holding a lead on Saturday, the Mean Green was very competitive and found itself down just 50-52 after six events. However, the Aggies extended its lead to 128-88 going into the final event before North Texas scored the final 15 points.
Charity Dillow was the only North Texas swimmer able to come away with an event title in the weekend’s action. She won the 200-meter Freestyle on Saturday with a time of 2:16.87. Although Dillow was the only UNT swimmer to win an event, the Mean Green captured 16 second-place finishes for the entire weekend.
North Texas will face TCU and the Univ. of Saint Louis in a dual meet on Nov. 2 in Fort Worth, Tex. The meet is set to get under way at 7 p.m.
