Rice Hands Mean Green Second Loss Of Season




HOUSTON (10/23/05) In its second consecutive day of competition in Houston, the North Texas women’s swimming and diving team fell short of victory when it was faced with a 133-70 point loss to Rice on Sunday, Oct. 23.

This was the fifth meeting between the two teams. The Owls now lead the series 5-0.

The Owls dominated the Mean Green throughout the meet as they managed to capture first place finishes in every event. However, NT recorded five second place finishes and seven third place finishes keeping the owls on their toes.

Sophomore Bonnie Garcia-Meitin narrowly missed out on capturing first place for the Mean Green in the 50 Freestyle (25.05) as she finished less than half a second behind Rice senior Laura Healey’s time of 24.67.

Junior Gwen Rourke posted a time of 1:09.06 in the 100 Breaststroke grabbing second place honors. Rourke tied with freshman Lauren Liston in the 200 Freestyle for third place with the time 2:01.05.

Senior Brooke Louisell posted her first top three finish of the season, as she recorded a time of 11:14.87 in the 1000 Freestyle.

Junior Emilia Tudose finished second in the 100 Freestyle with the time 55.40, and finished closely behind Garcia-Meitin in the 50 Freestyle taking third in the event at 25.42.

The team will host its first home meet of the season when Air Force travels to Denton to compete against the Mean Green on Friday, Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. in the UNT Recreation Center.
