(10/21/09) - North Texas Swimming & Diving swept the Sun Belt Player of the Week Awards, the conference announced Wednesday. Hiliary Riedmann was named the Swimmer of the Week, while Delia Covo took home the Diver of the Week award.
"I am very proud of both Hiliary and Delia," head coach Joe Dykstra said. "This recognition is well deserved. Both girls worked very hard through the off-season to improve and that work is starting to show in meets. They will only continue to get better and should win many more awards in the three years to come."
Riedmann finished a perfect four-for-four on Saturday, capturing first place in every event she swam. She started the day strong in the 200 yard medley relay, which took first. In the 200 Fly, Riedmann finished with a time of 2:07.40 which was good for a near three second victory. She also won the 500 yard Free by nearly five seconds and the 100 Fly by almost a second to finish her day a perfect four for four.
Covo had another good day for the Mean Green Saturday, continuing her run and taking first on both the one and three meter boards. On the one meter, Covo racked up a total score of 226.15, which is just short of her career best that she set last week. Covo also had a score of 202.35 on the three meter board which was almost 10 points in front of the nearest competitor.
The Mean Green Swimming & Diving squad will be in Denver, Colo., Saturday to face off in a double dual against Denver and Utah.
