Mean Green Swimming & Diving Makes Season Debut

DENTON (10/16/04) The North Texas women’s swimming and diving team began its season Saturday afternoon in the UNT Student Recreation Center as it hosted the Green & White exhibition meet.

The meet served as practice to better prepare the Mean Green for their upcoming season. Their regular season gets underway next weekend in Las Cruces, New Mexico, at the Sun Belt Fall Classic where they will be competing against four other conference opponents.

The crowd of 108 saw the White team defeat the Green team, 121 to 96. All-Sun Belt swimmer Bethany Pipes led the green squad to a first-place finish in eight of the 12 events. Pipes finished first in both of her individual events, the 200 and 500 Freestyle.

The Green team was led by senior Kara Brock and freshman newcomer Bonnie Garcia-Meitin. Garcia-Meitin gave the green squad three of their four first-place finishes in the 50 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke and 200 Medley Relay.

The two teams split the diving and relay events. The green squad’s Lauren Page finished first in the One-Meter Diving, while Lindsay Therrian gave the white team first-place honors in the Three-Meter Diving event.
