DENTON (10/15/05) - The North Texas women's swimming and diving team opened its 2005-06 season Saturday, Oct. 15 at the UNT Recreation Center with the annual Green and White meet. The white team swam away with a 121-73 victory over the green team.
This preseason scrimmage places members of the team against each other for competitive practice before the Mean Green face their season opponents.
Top performances on the white team were recorded by junior Gwen Rourke and sophomore Bonnie Garcia-Meitin. Rourke finished first in all four of her events. She posted a time of 1:59.71 in the 200 Freestyle, and 1:09.58 in the 100 Breaststroke. Rourke holds three individual school records at NT, including her time of 1:06.88 in the 100 Breaststroke.
Garcia-Meitin, as well, took first place finishes in her three events. She recorded a time of 25.00 in the 50 Freestyle and 1:00.36 in the 100 Backstroke. Garcia-Meitin holds two individual records at NT with a time of 24.37 in the 50 Freestyle and 58.25 in the 100 Backstroke.
Both girls were members of the 200 Medley relay team, along with sophomores Angelica Gentile and Amanda Neal, that finished first against the green team with the time1:51.84. Gentile also took a first place finish in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:01.63.
In the 100 Freestyle, junior Devon Dlouhy, finished first for the white team with a time of 55.55.
Junior Jaime Hosner competed for the green team and placed first in the 1000 Freestyle with the time 11:03.26. Fellow green team member, freshman Lauren Liston, took home a first place finish in the 500 Freestyle (5:20.16) and a second place finish in the 200 Freestyle (2:01.32).
The Mean Green travel to Houston next weekend for its first dual meets of the season. NT will face UH on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m., and Rice on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 10 a.m.
