DENTON, Texas (9/30/08) - There's a lot to be excited about this weekend as North Texas Swimming & Diving hosts the 2nd Annual North Texas Relays in Keller, TX on Friday, October 3 at 6 p.m. North Texas will also have its Alumni Meet in Denton on Saturday, October 4 at 1 p.m.

The North Texas Relays feature five teams- North Texas, SMU, TCU, Houston, and Missouri State.

The Mean Green defeated three out of the four teams last season that they are facing in the 08 Relays.

Last season, North Texas recorded their first ever dual meet wins versus TCU and Houston. The Mean Green also won its first dual meet of 07-08 at Missouri State, who would go on to win the Missouri Valley Conference.

The SMU Women's team finished with a national ranking of 11 last season after winning the Conference USA crown and qualifying for the NCAA championships. They had a total of eight All-Americans, seven swimmers and one diver. The Houston Cougars also made it to the NCAA championships finishing with a National Ranking of 28.

At last year’s North Texas Relays, the Mean Green finished second behind SMU and ahead of TCU.

Four Texas teams including three local ones have this meet garnering a lot of attention. There's expected to be around 500 in attendance.

On Saturday, the Alumni Meet takes place and it's always a fun one. Past North Texas swimmers come back and show they've still got it. These include Bethany Pipes, Hannah Bakke, Bonnie Garcia-Meitin, Charlene McClain, Alesha Olesen, Gwen Rourke, and Jaime Hosner. There should be around 25 former Mean Green swimmers participating.
