DENTON, Texas (7/17/08) The North Texas women’s swimming & diving schedule features nationally ranked opponents Texas A&M and SMU in 2008-09.
After many records fell last season, the Mean Green swimming & diving team has taken a step up in competition. Five teams that placed at the 2008 NCAA Championships are on the schedule, including Texas A&M, SMU, Houston, Rice, and Arkansas.
“I’m excited for the strength of the schedule. We are taking on top Division-I programs every week, and hosting teams from five different conferences. To get them to our facility speaks to the growth of our program, and the direction North Texas swimming is headed,” said head coach Joe Dykstra.
North Texas will face many prominent programs at home. On Oct. 3, North Texas hosts the second annual North Texas Relays in Keller, Texas. Opponents such as TCU, SMU, Missouri State, and Houston will be on hand. On Nov. 8, North Texas hosts the Mean Green Duals which include Arkansas, SMU, New Mexico State, and Colorado State.
At the beginning of 2009, North Texas squares off against the Utah Utes on Jan. 10 and the TCU Horned Frogs on Feb. 4.
The road portion of the schedule offers some tough opponents. The Mean Green travel to College Station to take on Texas A&M and Rice on Oct.10. North Texas then goes to Houston to face the Cougars the following day. North Texas also competes in the Husker Invitational on Nov. 20-23 and the FAU Invitational on Jan. 3.
The Sun Belt Championships are being held in Nashville, Tenn. on Feb. 18-21. The NCAA Championships are on Mar. 19-21 in College Station, Texas.
North Texas’ Green and White Meet is set for Sept. 23 and the Alumni Meet for Oct. 4.
