DENTON, Texas (7/7/09) - The North Texas swimming & diving program received yet another accolade for its academic excellence as the Collegiate Swim Coaches Association of America recognized the Mean Green as a Scholar All-American Team.
NT tied for the 32nd highest GPA in NCAA Division-I with a clip of 3.36. North Texas is just one of two Sun Belt schools and one of just five programs in the state of Texas to make the list.
The CSCAA recognizes the top NCAA Division-I programs with the highest team grade point averages ranging from 3.0-4.0. The Mean Green was honored last year with a team GPA of 3.34.
Not only successful in the classroom, North Texas received a No. 14 final ranking of the 2009 CSCAA/CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major poll in March.
The Mean Green finished third at the Sun Belt Conference Championships, marking its highest conference finish and point total in school history. This wrapped up a season in which the Mean Green set school records in 14 of 19 swimming events and tallied another NCAA 'B' Consideration Cut.
North Texas picked up all-conference performances in four events and had two swimmers and one diver awarded Sun Belt Performers of the Week.
The Mean Green kicks off the 2009-10 season on Sept. 25 with the annual Green & White Meet at the Norval Pohl Recreation Center. NT will host the third annual North Texas Relays, featuring SMU, TCU, Tulane, Centenary, Houston and Missouri State on Oct. 9 in Mansfield, Texas.
