Denton (03/07/07) For the fourth consecutive semester, the North Texas swimming and diving team has been selected as a top academic team in NCAA Division I, ranking 37th in the nation by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.
The CSCAA recognizes the top NCAA Division-I women’s programs with the highest team grade point averages from the previous semester. The Mean Green was selected to the honor after boasting a team GPA of 3.25.
The Mean Green was one of only two Sun Belt Conference teams to make the list and is joined by metroplex rival SMU who is ranked 51st with a GPA of 3.21. The University of Denver topped the list with a GPA of 3.58.
Last semester, the Mean Green made the list with a GPA of 3.36. The team consistently has the highest cumulative team GPA of any sport at North Texas.
The North Texas swimming and diving team completed its most successful season in the program’s nine-year history. Under the direction of first-year head coach Joe Dykstra, the team set a dual-meet season record of 7-5 and finished in fourth place at the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
Two swimmers and one diver were named Swimmer of the Week by the Sun Belt Conference and six swimmers earned All-Sun Belt honors at the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
