DENVER (2/17/06) A trio of school records fell at the El Pomar Natatorium, but it wasn’t enough to help the North Texas swimming and diving team move up in the standings at the Sun Belt Championships.
Senior Bonnie Garcia-Meitin had the Mean Green’s top finish, snapping her own school record in the 100-yard backstroke. The sophomore finished fourth with a time of 58.09. Garcia-Meitin now owns the top five times in school history.
Newcomer Betsmara Cruz finished fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke while setting the two best marks in program history. The freshman swam the school record in the preliminaries with a time of 1:06.22, followed closely by a 1:06.59 in the finals.
Alesha Oleson also managed to snap her own mark in the 100-yard butterfly. The freshman now owns the top three times in school history after she finished in 59.22.
The Mean Green are now in sixth place heading into tomorrow’s final day of competition at the Sun Belt Championships.
