Mean Green Ranked No. 11 Heading Into SBC Championships

Complete Rankings

DENTON, Texas (2/13/09) - The latest CSCAA/CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major poll has ranked the North Texas swimming & diving team at No.11 going into next week's Sun Belt Conference Championships.

North Texas held a No. 10 ranking in the last poll which was the highest ever in the program's history. Before then, the Mean Green ranked at No. 14 in the first poll of the season.

Earlier in the week, NT's Rosa Gentile was named Sun Belt Women's Swimmer of the Week for her performance against TCU on February 4. Rosa has won the award twice this year. Swimmer Emily Floyd and diver Delia Covo have also received Sun Belt Performer of the Week honors during the season.

Some of the highlights of the '08-09 campaign include 10 records broken, three each by Gentile and Floyd. Floyd was also on the record-breaking 800 Freestyle Relay team with Alicia Hale, Angie Dworschack, and Erika Roach. Nine of the 10 records were set at the Husker Invitational back in November where the Mean Green placed second. It was a nice achievement for North Texas finishing ahead of Colorado State, Iowa State, and Nebraska. The Mean Green also had a solid victory over the Sun Belt's New Orleans (No. 24) on October 24. At the North Texas Relays on October 3, NT placed higher than Missouri State who is currently No. 9 in the Mid-Major Poll.

The CollegeSwimming.com rankings are based on the best dual meet lineup for each team as decided by participating schools. Rankings are released four times throughout the season November (Pre-Invite), December (Post-Invite), February (Pre-Conference), and March (Post-Conference).

The SBC Championships in Nashville begin next Wednesday, February 18 and run through Saturday, February 21.
