Gentile Covets Sun Belt Honors For Second Time In '08-09

DENTON, Texas (2/11/09) - North Texas freshman swimmer Rosa Gentile was honored as the Sun Belt Women's Swimmer of the Week on Wednesday. This is the second time during the 2008-09 season Gentile has received this award.

Rosa won the 100 Butterfly (57.38) and was a leg in the first place 200 Freestyle Relay team (1:38.46) against TCU on February 4. She also placed second in the 200 Butterfly (2:07.97) and was part of the second place 200 Medley Relay team (1:49.50).

Gentile last won SBC Swimmer of the Week on January 14 after her performance against Utah winning the 100 and 200 Butterfly events.

She is currently the school record holder in the 100 Fly (56.98), second all-time in the 200 Fly (2:04.72), and has totaled eight individual wins in her first season at North Texas.

Teammates Emily Floyd and Delia Covo have also been Sun Belt Performers of the Week this season. Floyd won Women's Swimmer of the Week back on November 12 and Covo garnered Women's Diver of the Week on January 14.

The Mean Green is now one week away from competing in the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Nashville beginning on February 18. The squad looks to finish ahead of its fourth place mark from last year's championships.
