Mean Green Head To No. 6 Texas A&M For Final Dual of 2009-10
DENTON, Texas - North Texas Swimming & Diving looks to wrap up the dual meet season with an impressive outing against the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station, Texas on Saturday.
The Mean Green (9-4) will make the trek to Student Rec Natatorium in hopes of continuing its preparation for the Sun Belt Conference Championships which begin Feb. 17.
The Aggies (5-1) come in ranked No. 6 in the nation in the CSCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Team Poll and riding a four dual meet win streak. A&M will be facing Houston, a team which North Texas defeated at home 141-101, two weeks ago, on Friday night, before taking on the Mean Green Saturday afternoon.
"This meet represents great opportunities for us in a lot of different ways," said head coach Joe Dykstra. "First, this will be the final meet for the swimmers we cannot take to the conference championships and I am very excited to see them swim their fastest times of the year and really lead our team in this final dual meet. This meet will also be a chance to narrow down some event choices as well as fine tune some race strategies as we head into the championship season. We also get to once again measure ourselves against the best of the best in their wonderful facility."
North Texas was once again named to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Division I Team Scholar All-American team for the fall semester on Friday. Mean Green Swimming and Diving ranks 69th nationally in team overall grade point average with a 3.22.
Denver and Florida International are the only Sun Belt teams with higher GPA's than North Texas.
The Mean Green will be back in the pool at the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Nashville, Tenn. Feb. 17-20.
