DENTON, Texas (2/2/09) - The North Texas swimming & diving team hosts its final meet of the regular season against the TCU Horned Frogs on Wednesday evening at 5 P.M. The swimming events will take place at the Pohl Recreation Center and diving will be at the Physical Education Building (across the street). The meet will be available via webcast at http://www.collegeswimming.tv/.
In a special ceremony before the meet, Taryne Cantillo, the lone North Texas senior, will be recognized. Going into this season Cantillo held the school records in both the 100 and 200 Butterfly.
In two days, the Mean Green looks to duplicate the effort when it faced TCU last year. North Texas won 161-139 in Ft. Worth giving the squad it's first-ever victory over TCU. During the meet, NT's Emily Floyd set a school record in the 1000 Freestyle (10:22.74) while winning the event. Floyd has broken the 1000 Free record twice this season at the Mean Green Duals (10:19.56) and the Husker Invitational (10:13.19). North Texas has currently broken 10 school records in six different events this season.
The metroplex rivals also met earlier this season at the North Texas Relays back on October 3. The Horned Frogs finished second behind SMU and North Texas placed fourth ahead of Missouri State.
TCU comes in 7-3-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the Mountain West. Along the way, the team has picked up wins over Missouri State, UT-Permian Basin, Colorado State, Air Force, San Diego State, Centenary, and New Mexico. The lone tie was against Utah who North Texas fell to on January 10. Maria Paula Alvarez leads the Frogs with 15 individual wins followed by Ashley Bolin (14) and Jennifer Ferguson (12).
Richard Sybesma is in his 30th season as TCU's head women's and men's coach. He has coached 18 All-Americans, seven National Champions, and 17 Olympic trial qualifiers along the way.
