FORT WORTH, Texas (2/01/06) It didn’t matter if it was the butterfly, backstroke or breaststroke, the North Texas swimming and diving team dominated every 200-yard event on the way to an impressive showing against TCU and Incarnate Word.
A 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 breaststroke gave the Mean Green enough to down Incarnate Word, but fell short of the hosting Horned Frogs in the double-dual meet on Wednesday night.
Betsmara Cruz paced North Texas with the victory in the 200 breaststroke. The freshman posted a time of 2:29.37. Junior Gwen Rourke finished second with a time of 2:30.32, while senior Brooke Louisell tallied third place in a time of 2:31.63.
Another talented freshman also notched a win in a 200-yard race. Alesha Oleson put up a career-best time of 2:13.06 in the butterfly.
Bonnie Garcia-Meitin managed a victory in the 200-yard backstroke. The sophomore school-record holder posted a time of 2:07.45.
The Mean Green will be back in action this Saturday in College Station to take on Texas A&M.
