Swimming And Diving Host Senior Night Against TCU
Mean Green Seek Third Straight Win Over Horned Frogs
DENTON - The North Texas swimming and diving team concludes its home slate against TCU at 5 p.m. Friday at the Pohl Recreation Center. The Mean Green will recognize nine seniors as part of the program's annual senior night.
“Each of them joined us in our pursuit of excellence and have raised the bar day-in and day-out,” North Texas head coach Brittany Roth said. “Getting to be a part of their college experience and watching the personal growth, poise and confidence over the last four years is what I love most about coaching.”
Historically, North Texas has struggled against the Horned Frogs with an all-time record of 5-19, but the Mean Green have defeated their metroplex rivals the past two seasons. In those wins, UNT has won 25 of a possible 32 events.
“TCU has a really strong team and has been swimming well all season,” Roth said. “Sam Busch has done a great job in his first year.”
While the outcome may not be as one-sided as the past two meetings, the Mean Green are no strangers to a challenge this season.
“It’s going to take a team effort and a fight-until-the-end attitude,” Roth said. “I know this group loves to race, and their energy will be up as celebrate the senior class.”
North Texas is coming off a 126-81 dual-meet victory over Incarnate Word on Jan. 8, headlined by six freestyle victories. Freshman Leigh Faires McGee accounted for two of the six victories in individual events and swam the final leg of the A relay in the 400-yard freestyle, which took first with a time of 3:32.73.
