DENTON, Texas- Mean Green Swimming & Diving host cross-town rival TCU Friday night at the Pohl Recreation Center at 6:00 p.m.
North Texas (5-3) is looking for its first home victory over the Horned Frogs (8-4) and third overall in program history. Last season’s home swim meet against TCU was postponed due to the snowy weather in the DFW Metroplex.
The last time to two teams met, the Mean Green stole the show in January of the 2009-10 season at the University Recreation Center in Fort Worth, edging the Horned Frogs 155.5-144.
The Mean Green is coming off a dominating performance last weekend seizing 13 of 16 events over conference opponent UALR.
Rosa Gentile remained perfect in the pool for the day, winning both her individual races (100 Breast, 100 Free) and relays (200 IM Relay, 200 Free Relay).
Rebecca Taylor knocked off her own school record in the three-meter dive set last December with a score of 298.13. This marks the fourth time Taylor has broken a school record this season.
“Everyone on the team is excited for the opportunity to compete with a great TCU team on Senior Night,” commented Dykstra. “The teams are very similar in terms of make-up, talent, speed, etc. so it should be a fun and very close competition. It is a fun rivalry because of the proximity and familiarity of the teams, and since the ice storm prevented the meet from occurring last winter there is even more added to motivation to perform well this week.
“We are also very excited to honor our 8 seniors prior to the start of the swimming events. They are a group who have had a tremendous impact on this program in terms of records, wins, academic awards, and in many other intangible ways and it will be great to celebrate their legacy before their last meet on campus.”
The meet will be held at the Pohl Recreation Center where nine Mean Green seniors will be honored prior to the meet with TCU.
