DENTON, Texas (1/14/10) --
Mean Green Swimming & Diving heads to Fort Worth, Texas, Friday night to take on cross-town rival TCU at the University Recreation Center at 6 p.m.
North Texas (6-4) is looking to rebound from a hard fought loss to No. 18 Arkansas and defeat the Horned Frogs (5-5) for the second time in program history.
"I am looking forward to what should be our closest meet of the year," said head coach Joe Dykstra. "I'm interested to see how our swimmers perform, going into another really good team's pool and swimming against them. I'm excited to see what our times will be."
The two teams have met once this season already, with TCU edging out an 8-point victory to take second place at the relay only North Texas Relays in October.
The Mean Green has several swimmers performing well heading into the event, including the reigning Sun Belt Conference Co-Swimmer of the week, Alicia Hale.
Hale took home four first place finishes to go along with her two second place finishes and one third place time.
Diver Delia Covo is also coming off a strong performance, shattering a nearly decade-old school record on the three meter board by diving a 258.38 against Arkansas.
The only time North Texas has knocked off TCU was in the 2007-08 season, when the Mean Green went into the Horned Frogs' University Recreation Center, and defeated them 161-139.
North Texas will return to the Pohl Recreation Center next weekend for two matches, Jan. 22 against Houston and Jan. 23 against Rice. Nine Mean Green seniors will be honored prior to the meet with Houston.
