Swimming And Diving's Hale Breaks Record In Houston

HOUSTON (1/13/07) - The North Texas swimming and diving team wrapped up action today against Houston, Florida International and New Mexico State with a broken record and a win over FIU, 215 to 123.

“We raced really hard today,” said head coach Joe Dykstra. “It was a really thrilling competition. We were in a hole yesterday against New Mexico State and today we came back and put a charge in them. It came down to the last relay and the score ended up 170-169. I was pleased with the way we stepped up to the challenge.”

Alicia Hale broke the school record in the 400 IM by five seconds with a time of 4:33.25.

Nikki Leslie recorded a 53.93 in the 100 freestyle, which is a personal and season best.

The Mean Green nearly managed a win over New Mexico State. North Texas fell to the Aggies by one point, 170-169. Houston topped the Mean Green by a score of 240-105.

The Mean Green is back in action tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. against Texas A&M in the first home meet of 2007 at the Pohl Recreation Center.
