SAN DIEGO - The North Texas swimming team will kick off its 2015 slate of competition when it takes on the University of San Diego in the Torero Shootout. The event is set to begin at 4 p.m. CST on Friday from the USD Sports Center Pool.
The meet's unique format will feature preliminary, semifinal and championship rounds in four sprint events: the 50 butterfly, 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 50 breaststroke. In the eliminator competition, 16 swimmers will compete in each event's first round. The top eight finishers (four from each team) will then advance to the semifinal round before the final four swimmers compete in the championship finale.
You can follow Friday's action through the Meet Mobile app. Simply install the application onto your smartphone and search for the Torero Shootout.
- This will be the first all-time meeting between North Texas and San Diego.
- The Shootout rounds out a busy week for the team. On Tuesday, North Texas practiced with San Diego State and Boise State at SDSU's Aztec Aquaplex.
- The sprint-style format may give North Texas an advantage. The Mean Green's top times in the 50 free, 100 back, 100 breast and 100 fly currently trump those of San Diego.
