Mean Green Takes On Utes This Saturday

DENTON, Texas (1/08/09) - The Utah Utes of the Mountain West conference will be in town to face the North Texas Mean Green swimming & diving team this Saturday at 11 a.m. Utah comes in undefeated in head-to-head competition this season while North Texas looks to mirror the performance from the Husker Invite back on November 20-23. These two schools have never swam against each other in dual meets before.

The Utah and SMU men are also competing on Saturday. The swimming events will take place at the Pohl Recreation Center on the campus of North Texas and diving will be at the PEB (Public Education Building) across the street. Diving could be moved to an alternate location so check back for further updates at

The Mean Green squad competed last Saturday in Boca Raton, Florida at the FAU Invite placing fifth. Before their trip to the Sunshine State, North Texas received a No. 10 ranking in the CSCAA/ Mid-Major Poll. This was the highest ranking ever awarded to the Mean Green in the program's history.

The Mean Green also has several swimmers atop the Sun Belt charts dating back to November 26. Emily Floyd is No. 1 in the conference in the 500 and 1650 Freestyles while the 800 Freestyle Relay team of Alicia Hale, Angie Dworschack, Emily Floyd, and Erika Roach also sit in first. Alicia Hale is second in both the 100 and 200 Freestyles. Erika Roach is second in the 500 Free and the 200 Fly. Angie Dworschack is No. 2 in the 1650 Free and Rosita Bado sits at the same position in the 200 Back. The 200 and 400 Free Relay teams also claim the second spot.

During the team's second place finish Husker Invite in November, North Texas set six new school records in the 100 Free, 1000 Free, 1650 Free, 100 Fly, 200 Fly, and the 800 Free Relay.

The Utes, who face TCU on Friday before making their way to Denton, have picked up wins over solid opponents this season. The squad has two victories over Boise State and Washington and also took down San Diego State and UNLV. Another win came against the Sun Belt's Denver.

Utah is not the first Mountain West school North Texas has faced in '08-09. The Mean Green competed against Colorado State twice earlier in the season. The first meeting was at the Mean Green Duals and the second took place at the Husker Invite where NT finished ahead of the Rams.
