NT Swimming And Diving Come Up Short In Houston

Nov. 3, 2013

HOUSTON, Texas -

The North Texas swimming and diving fell to the University of Houston Friday, and Conference USA foe Rice Saturday, in a weekend dual.

Against the Cougars, the Mean Green started off strong winning the 200 medley relay. Junior Krista Rossum took first in the 400 IM and 200 breaststroke, even with classmate Mona Groteguth’s top finish in the 200 backstroke (2:02.55) it wasn’t enough to defeat U of H. North Texas fell 128-109.

“Our goal throughout the season has been to improve meet to meet and across the board we improved in both our meets this weekend,” said head coach Brendon Bray. “The Houston meet came down to the last relay and I am very proud of how our team competed and raced.”

Even with the Mean Green's 11 top-three finishes against Rice, including Rossum’s wins in the 200 IM and 200 breaststroke, yet it wasn’t enough to hold off the Owls who took the meet 158-102.

“I am excited to see how much better we will be in the end of November at our next meet and gain some experience to perform at our best at the conference meet in February,” said Bray.

Next for North Texas swimming and diving is the Houston Invitational, Nov. 21-23.
