Green Edges White In Intrasquad Exhibition

Sept. 26, 2015

DENTON — The North Texas swimming and diving team concluded the weekend with its annual Green & White meet Saturday, where they split into two teams and competed in a mock dual meet. After 13 swimming events and one diving event, the Green team defeated the White team by a score of 141-118.

“We put the team in this meet, the day after the pentathlon, to simulate the two-day dual meets that we will have in the fall,” head coach Brendon Bray said. “It also simulates having to compete in events back-to-back in invitational meets. All in all, that’s the adversity that I wanted them to go through. It was less about the times and more about how they react when they are tired and sore.”

For the Green team, senior Bianca Bocsa (100 yard backstroke and 100 yard butterfly), sophomore Claudia Kitching (100 and 200 yard breaststroke), sophomore Isabelle Morris (100 and 200 yard freestyle), junior Ash Stone (200 backstroke) and sophomore Barbara Wasilewska (500 yard freestyle) claimed individual wins.

Bocsa and Morris also combined with sophomore Lauren Tidwell and junior Courtney Connelly for a first-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay, clinching the win for the Green team in the final event of the meet.

For the White team, sophomore Sarah Vaisse, coming off her overall pentathlon title Friday, won the 200 yard IM event. Seniors Michelle Balcaen (50 yard freestyle) and Gaby Colunga (200 yard butterfly) also scored individual wins.

Vaisse and Balcaen also combined with freshman Natalia Kwiatkowska and sophomore Sydney Buckley for a first-place finish in the 200 yard medley relay.

Competing on the boards for the first time under first-year diving coach Mark Murdock, senior Jasmine Abercrombie won the 1-meter competition for the green team.

The Mean Green return to action next Friday, when they begin their regular season schedule at the North Texas Relays in Southlake, Texas.
