S&D Sits In Fifth After Day Two At C-USA Championship
North Texas Junior Jana Burkard Earned First C-USA Medal

ATLANTA, GA. - North Texas junior Jana Burkard earned the Mean Green's first medal at the Conference USA Championships with her third-place finish in the 500 freestyle.
The Mean Green currently sits in fifth place concluding today’s finals, with the defending champions Rice still in the lead.
Burkard’s time of 4:48.92 was a season best, although she could not hold off defending champion Erin Flanigan (4:44.53) and FIU’s Sonia Perez Arau (4:45.06).
Krista Rossum was a finalist in the 200 IM. Her time of 2:02.09 placed her fifth in the event and it was a top-ten program performance.
In the 50 freestyle, Michelle Balcaen’s preliminaries swim of 23.86 earned her a spot in the consolation finals, where she placed 20th. This was a life-time performance for the sophomore and her first finals appearance for the Mean Green.
Concluding the second day was the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Rossum, Mona Groteguth, Balcaen, and Bianca Bocsa time of 1:34.69 placed fifth in the event; this was a season-best for the Mean Green.
