KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The North Texas swimming and diving team sits in fifth place after a short day one from the Conference USA Championships. The meet’s first day of action included only two women’s events.

The Mean Green started the day with the 200 medley relay, where the team of Mona Groteguth, Sarah Vaisse, Sydney Buckley and Michelle Balcaen finished seventh overall. Despite the squad’s seemingly low finish, their 1:43.70 time was actually among the program’s best marks. That time is good for the second-best finish this season and the ninth-best in North Texas history.

The Mean Green rounded out the day with a fifth-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay. Krista Rossum, Isabelle Morris, Mona Groteguth and Bianca Bocsa tallied a 7:19.81 time, good for the program’s third-best finish all-time.

With three days to go, the Mean Green has 54 total points and is currently tied with Marshall for fifth place. Rice and WKU are tied atop the leaderboard with 74 points. FIU sits in third (64 points) and Florida Atlantic is in fourth (60).

Day two will begin on Thursday, Feb. 19, with a 10 a.m. preliminary round. The afternoon’s finals round will begin at 6 p.m. where the team will be competing in the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 200 free relay and three-meter dive.
