North Texas 2017 Softball Schedule

DENTON – The North Texas softball team announced its 2017 spring schedule, highlighted by a home game on March 28 against the 2016 Women’s College World Series National Champion Oklahoma.

North Texas will have another challenging 56-game schedule in 2017. The Mean Green will face the last four WCWS Champions (Oklahoma 2013, 2016 and Florida 2014-15) and has games slated versus seven NCAA tournament teams from a year ago: Baylor, Florida, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Florida A&M, Wichita State and Texas.

“I believe this schedule will challenge us early and often, but this team is ready and willing to compete,” North Texas head coach Tracey Kee said. “We may be young, but I feel this squad is already battle tested in how they have approached a long rigorous fall.”

North Texas will look to improve on its 6-16 road mark from a year ago with 34 road games, 17 non-conference, scheduled in 2017.

“We know the importance of learning how to win on the road, and I feel this schedule will prepare us for that,” Kee added. “I’m a strong believer in scheduling hard games to move a program forward, and I look forward to watching this team attack this 56-game schedule with a winning passion.”

The Mean Green will challenge the Gators in the Florida Tournament hosted in Gainesville from May 5-7. North Texas will travel to Stillwater, Okla., for a game against Oklahoma State on April 12, and will face Texas in Austin on April 26th.

North Texas begins the 2017 campaign with the North Texas Invitational from Feb. 10-12. Arkansas and UMass Lowell will compete in the field. Conference USA play begins on Saturday, March 11, with a three-game home series versus UTEP.

The C-USA tournament will be hosted by Southern Miss, beginning on May 10 and concluding on the 13th.

Kee’s staff remains intact this year with associate head coach Natalie Kozlowski and assistant coach Christina Merrida returning for another season. Kee added volunteer assistant coach Stephen Holton in the offseason.

The Mean Green return nine players from last year’s squad, including first team all-conference selection Kelli Schkade, while five newcomers complete the 2017 roster.
