Softball Wins Two Games At Home

DENTON, Texas (11/7/11) - The North Texas softball team won both of its home contests last week and looks to cap a solid fall season with a final game on Friday.

The Mean Green relied on solid pitching in the 4-1 win against Navarro College and then found its bats in the 11-2 victory against Western Oklahoma State College on Friday night. NT has won seven of its eight games during fall ball.

Sophomore Lauren Poole recorded another good outing, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing one run off four hits. She struck out three batters. Ashley Kirk struck out five in 2.1 innings of relief work.

Jordan Terry knocked in the first run with a bunt single in the first, and Lisa Johnson brought home a second runner in the 5th.  Two runs in the eighth sealed the win. Lesley Hirsch and Jessica Shields both posted multi-hit games for the Mean Green.

North Texas exploded for 21 hits in the win against Western Oklahoma. The Mean Green scored runs in six of the nine innings, including three in the fourth and ninth.

Freshman Madison Thompson was impressive in her pitching outing on Friday. She pitched seven innings and allowed two runs off three hits, while striking out six. WOSC's only two runs came off a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

Brittany Simmons was effective in relief. She pitched two scoreless innings and allowed just one hit.

The first four in the lineup (Megan Rupp, Hirsch, Johnson, Brooke Foster) all posted at least three hits each. Johnson recorded two singles and a home run, while Foster went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer and a double.

North Texas finishes up its fall season with a Friday afternoon game on Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. against Seminole State College at Lovelace Stadium.
