Softball Defeats TWU In Fall Season Action

DENTON, Texas (10/17/11) - Sophomore Brooke Foster knocked in four runs to lead the North Texas softball team to a 5-1 win against TWU on Friday night at Pioneer Field.

The Mean Green offense managed just two runs off two hits through the first six innings before exploding for four runs in the seventh to seal the win.

Sophomore Lauren Poole had another successful outing, pitching six innings and allowing just two hits. She struck out six batters.

The Mean Green outhit TWU, 7-5. Brooke Foster posted two of those seven hits, going 2-for-4 with a single in the second inning and a two-homer in the seventh. She knocked in the first two runs of the game in the second with a two-RBI single.

Following the two runs in the second inning, TWU shut down the Mean Green offense to just one hit until the seventh. Freshman Jennifer Beardsley posted a one-out double in the seventh and Foster knocked her home with a long ball. Freshman Danielle Hoff brought home the fifth run of the game with a bases-loaded grounder to first base.

Brittany Simmons pitched three innings in relief. After giving up a solo home run in the top of the seventh, she settled down and allowed just two more hits through the rest of the game.

North Texas plays UTA on the road on Thursday, Oct. 20 and then hosts its annual alumni game on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 12 p.m.
