Mean Green Opens Fall Season With Crosstown Showdown

Oct. 8, 2014

DENTON - North Texas softball will open up their 2014 fall campaign with a trip just down the road to Pioneer Field to take on the TWU Pioneers in doubleheader action on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 5 p.m.

The Mean Green, now featuring many new faces throughout the program, last took the field in actual competition against an opponent nearly exactly five months ago. North Texas saw its record-breaking first season under head coach Tracey Kee come to a screeching halt in a 7-1 loss to Tulsa in the Conference USA tournament semifinals back on May 9, 2014.

Texas Woman's, after finishing third in the Lone Star Conference standings in 2014 with a 41-16 record, provides a competitive opening game of North Texas' fall season. The Pioneers advanced to the 2014 NCAA Division II South Central Regional softball tournament but was eliminated after allowing Midwestern State to claim an eight run come-from-behind walk off victory.

Thursday's meeting with TWU will include a seven-inning live game one, followed by second game limited by time. Admission to both games at Pioneer Field will be free to all fans.

Fans who plan to be in attendance are encouraged to arrive early in order to observe a moment of silence to honor the victims involved in the recent tragic events associated with the North Central Texas College softball team.
