DENTON - Mean Green head softball coach Tracey Kee announced the signing of sisters Jami and Kelli Schkade on Wednesday.

Jami Schkade joins the Mean Green with two years of eligibility left, while Kelli Schkade will begin the 2015 season as a sophomore. Both players will be eligible to play immediately.

"We are extremely excited to add Jami & Kelli to our Mean Green family as well as welcome them back to the state of Texas," Kee said. "The experience they bring and their competitive nature will have an immediate impact in our program."

Jamie Schkade comes to the Mean Green from Illinois, where she played for three years, missing her third year due to injury. In her first two seasons, she started 72 games, collecting 24 hits and scoring 16 runs.

Following her sophomore year, she was named to the Big Ten All-Defensive Team at second base, the Academic All-Big Ten and an NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete.

Kelli Schkade, who is transferring from Missouri after starting 30 games for the Tigers at second base, third base and outfield, batted .227 and registered 20 hits, including four doubles, three triples and three home runs in her lone year in Columbia.

During her freshman campaign, she was a member of a Tigers squad that made the NCAA tournament, falling in the regional final to Nebraska.

"We are excited about the future of North Texas softball. This 2015 squad will have a new look, but will no doubt be ready to compete come spring," Kee concluded.
