Newcomers Receive All-District Honors
DENTON, Texas (6/20/11) -- Three North Texas incoming freshmen capped their high school softball careers with Dallas Morning News All-District honors. Dani Hoff (IB, Garland HS/Garland, TX) and Haley Wagner (OF, McKinney North HS/Carrolton, TX) were named first-team all-district, while Meredith Baker (C, McKinney HS/McKinney, TX) was named District 10-4A Catcher of the Year.
Hoff is a three-time all-district performer. Hoff and the Garland softball team finished with an 18-13-2 record in 2011, falling in the Class 5A Region II area playoffs. She hit .488 as a senior with 30 RBI.
Wagner was named to the District 10-4A First Team for the fourth straight year. Wagner and the McKinney North softball team finished fourth in the district.
Baker picked up her third all-district catcher of the year honor. She led McKinney High School to a third-place finish in the district with an overall record of 17-19. Baker received all-district newcomer of the year honors as a freshman, catcher of the year honors as a sophomore and co-catcher accolades as a junior.
Elizabeth Coe (IF, Brazoswood HS/Lake Jackson, TX) was named to the Texas Sports Writers All-State Softball team. She received honorable mention honors at third base. Coe and the Brazoswood softball team advanced to the regional quarterfinals, finishing with a 27-13 record. Coe also picked up District 24-5A First Team honors.
Hoff, Wagner, Baker and Coe will join two other newcomers as freshmen for the 2011-12 school year.
